Our Mission:
“Inspiring individuals to connect with the natural world through engagement & education”
Outdoor Journeys’ History
Outdoor Journeys, a registered 501(c) 3 non profit, was formed in the Fall of 2014 by our Founder & CEO Johnny McLaughlin. Even though Outdoor Journeys, or OJ for short, has only been existence for a just few years, we are staffed with highly experienced and passionate individuals who throughly believe in the positive impact in surrounding youth and extended communities with positive role models while connecting them with the great outdoors. In recent times we have seen a growing disconnect within our society from nature. We therefore felt that it was imperative that OJ would be adaptive in identifying vehicles to meet the needs of our local communities in connecting them to being outside, as seen in the growth of our Family Camp programs.
In September of 2015, Outdoor Journeys took over the management of Camp Nawakwa, located in the San Bernardino Mountains, which had been under the stewardship of Camp Fire Inland Southern California since it was built in 1947. Through our Day Camp program, Camp Blue Sky, and other community programs we have expanded our services already to youth and their families throughout the region.
